It is probably more correct to refer to Shannon Elizabeth as a celebrity that enjoys poker rather than a true woman of poker. Commencing her career in a music video in her home town of Waco, Texas, she moved New York to pursue modelling which led to playing a few rather forgettable parts in on-screen and television movies until landing a role in the 1999 teen blockbuster American Pie.

Playing the part of Nadia, a gorgeous Czech exchange student who is the love interest in the film, Elizabeth made her mark by appearing topless in one of the scenes, instantly becoming a celebrity in the eyes of many teenage males (wondering why? Do a Google search and there will be plenty of pictures explaining!)

Now that Shannon was a Hollywood star, she was introduced to Hold'em but wasn't interested in the game until becoming friends with poker players Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak.

After some coaching on her game, Elizabeth became a celebrity poker player, competing in Celebrity Poker Showdown, Calvin Klein's 2nd Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament, and she even won Nicky Hilton's inaugural New Year's Eve Poker Tournament.

Earning Money From Poker

Her best money finish was in 2007 taking 3rd place in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship winning $125,000. She has attempted World Series of Poker competitions but her performance isn't notable.

A Mixture of Careers

Since then, Elizabeth has combined her passion of poker with her love of animals, working hard to raise money for her favourite animal protection charities.

Animals mean everything to me. We have to be their voice and protectors.

Also big, of course is her acting career, and she's appeared in two poker themed movies; Deal and The Grand. Her current venture is a remake of the horror movie Night of the Demons which is set to be released this October.
