From her teenage days, Clonie Gowen was always competitive and successful in everything she did, from being a member of the state basketball team to earning the Miss Teen McAlester Oklahoma crown.
She began playing poker when the father of her then boyfriend introduced her to the game and started to drive to Shreveport, Louisiana on the weekends where she earned a few hundred dollars for her troubles each trip.
Clonie Gowen Joins the World Poker Tour
In 2002 Gowen took part in the World Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic and finished in the top 10 however her real success came a year later when she took home WPT Ladies Night tournament beating some of the big names in the game including Jennifer Harman and Annie Duke.
She has also been victorious on three occasions at Poker After Dark, an achievement matched by none other than Johnny Chan and has won over $1 million in prize money.
Clonie and Family, Teaching and Charity
This one time travel agency owner not only plays poker full time and raises a family, but also manages to fit in frequent appearances at charity poker events and write for All In magazine.
She is also on the Board of Directors for the United States Poker Association and is a part of a poker school which teaches women how to have success in cash games and competitive tournaments.
Trouble with Full Tilt
Formerly Clonie was a part of the Full Tilt poker team however she has since filed a lawsuit against the company for a breach of contract.
As of 27 April 09, the case was thrown out of court denying Gowen of a 1% ownership of the company which is worth around $4 billion dollars. Sorry Clonie but it 's back to the drawing board, or should I say it's back to the felt, and time to earn your money the hard way.
