Liz Lieu Bio & Articles

If there is one person on the female professional circuit that is known for her stylish and fashionable appearance, then it must be Vietnamese born Liz 'the Poker Diva' Lieu. Brought up in Colorado, this half Vietnamese, half Chinese glamour girl began playing pai gow or Chinese poker at 13 and immediately fell in love with cards.

Liz Lieu has made a name for herself in the game and is ranked the 19th highest female money winner in poker.

After learning how to play Hold'em, Lieu and a friend began running house games and she began earning a decent income from her venture. This was short lived as when her father suffered a heart attack, she told her parents to quit their jobs and allow her to provide for them by playing poker.

Transition from Cash Games to Tournaments

After years of playing limit Hold'em cash games, Lieu was persuaded in 2005 by John Phan to enter her first tournament, the World Series of Poker $1500 no limit hold'em in which she walked away with $168,000 after finish in 5th place.

She then made her way to the Bellagio and played in the Festa Al Lago tournament and ended up with a 4th and two 16th finishes, earning $80,000 in less than a week (I'd be happy to earn that in a year!) In 2006, Lieu took home her first tournament win when she won the LA Poker Classic, and in 2007 she repeated her success at the same event.

Philanthropy

Since first playing professionally in 2005, Liz vowed donate 20% of each tournament win to charity, most who work in Asia. When her father passed away in 2007, she travelled back to Vietnam and became involved in assisting charities in her father's honour.

After months visiting orphanages and homeless shelters, and with a new sense of fulfilment, she was revitalised at went on to make two final tables at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour premier in Macau. In just a few short years at the felt, Liz Lieu has made a name for herself in the game and is ranked the 19th highest female money winner in poker.
