Many female poker players, especially those who are new to the game, feel rather intimidated when taking a seat at a table full of men. It’s like you can feel their eyes on you and hear the thoughts racing through their heads about how easily they will be able to beat you.
For some reason, men just don’t think that our brains are capable of carrying out the same mathematical calculations on which majority of the game is based.
I know you understand what I’m talking about. We’ve all experienced it at one time or another, but what can we do to prove ourselves worthy?
Putting on an Act
Well what I like to do is instead of trying to put on an act to pretend that I’m not intimidated (and possibly make a fool of myself in the process), is sheepishly sit down, arrange my stack and smile politely at anyone who makes eye contact, so all the men can continue to think that I am the weak, vulnerable female.
It’s all a part of the plan to lure them into the game.
Seduced by the Temptress
After of few hands, the opportunity will arise to make your move and push in a few stacks. All the men look at you with that tilted head, puzzled look on their face because no woman could possibly know what she is doing.
So what do they do now? They follow you in, thinking that at the end of it they will prove to all the other men at the table that women can’t play poker, all the while emptying their pockets along the way until BHAM! You flip over your cards and prove that you know what you were doing the whole time, and walk away with their hard earned cash leaving them empty pocketed with nothing but a shattered ego.
