When I think of a home poker night, my mind automatically draws a picture of a bunch of men sitting at a table in silence drinking beer and smoking cigars, with the table and the surrounding floor space covered in empty peanut shells and half eaten pizza.
Ok so I may be overdramatizing things a little but one thing I am pretty sure of is that women are not allowed to be around unless handing out fresh beer’s or wearing a sexy little outfit, or as I’m sure most men would wish for – a woman doing both! So since we are often not allowed to participate in the men’s game then maybe it’s time we created our own womens’ poker night.
If you don’t know any women who play poker, then invite your friends over for a ‘play money training night’ and a few drinks. Be sure to make it relaxed, play some music and don’t take it too seriously, because who knows, they may think you just want to teach them so you can one day win their money.
Personalize your home game to make it fun
If your game is around the time of a holiday, try and personalize the night for example by having themed cards or snacks. Now it is quite likely that little or no poker will be played at all because when a group of women get together it usually ends up being a night of chatting about love, life and the universe – except poker, so don’t be disappointed.
At the end of the night if the deck of cards is still sitting in the box, you will know that everyone had a good time catching up and will look forward to the next ‘poker night’ where they can leave their man and their kids at home and enjoy some time out with the girls, and maybe at some point it will actually involve poker.
However if you are a serious player but your friend’s aren’t interested, trying searching online for your local tournament and take a trip to see if there are any women who share your interest in establish a ladies night.
