Pkr Grl Likes… a few drinks with poker, but is it for everyone?
After a night out with friends and one too many glasses of red, I woke up wondering if it was possible to not only play a game of poker, but play it well while enjoying a few drinks. I decided against finding out the answer first hand and thought I would turn to the pro’s to see if any of them had succeeded.

Drunk Poker
Some of you may remember the broadcast last year of the final table of the WSOP $50,000 HORSE event where Scotty Nguyen was enjoying beer after beer and insulted players during play, even dropping the ‘F bomb’ and other choice words throughout the game. But somehow to my surprise and I’m sure to the shock of others, Scotty managed the win and walked away with the championship bracelet, but also had to walk away from an interview due to his intoxicated state.
What’s good for Scotty is good for Phil
Phil Hellmuth last month also took to the challenge of trying his luck at drunken poker online but didn’t have the same success as Nguyen. However he did provide his Twitter followers with a night of entertainment by posting frequent updates about how drunk he was including one which said ‘I am so drunk I cannot lose!!!! Going to play high stakes limit Hold’em at UB now!!’
Unfortunately for Phil, broadcasting his night’s drinking history on the internet provided an opportunity for some to take advantage of his state, which is exactly what they did, taking 16k from him at the table.
So it seems that you can win big money at the table, even if you have consumed a few drinks (and you can also lose money), however if poker is considered a professional sport, and those who play it are considered professionals, it is appropriate to be drunk while playing in a tournament?
