For the last few weeks I have been hearing more and more about something called Twitter. From what I could gather, it’s like sending a SMS length message called ‘tweets’ to your friends so they can know what is going on in your life, and they can reply or comment on their own accord. I was interested to find out more so I went to the official website but couldn’t exactly work out what they were on about so I decided it would be easier to join.

After filling in all the usual details, I was now a part of what is supposed to be the ‘next big thing’ however I needed to add friends to see how it worked, but since I didn’t know anyone else with an account, I just went with the suggested popular Tweeters.
Keeping up to date with the Jones’s
It sounds like a great way to keep up to date on what is happening in the world doesn’t it? After pressing buttons here and there, I ended up following some of the most well known people in the celebrity world, including Ashton Kutcher and that short guy from American Idol, Ryan Seacrest.
What I wasn’t prepared for was the garbage that I was now being bombarded with. Yes it has its good points like being able to know when some big gossip story breaks (great for bloggers), but most of the time I was finding out too much detail about what some b-list’er had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, what time they were going to bed and who they hated when they started “Drunk Tweeting” etc.
Women’s Poker Tweets
What is interesting though are the nuggets of gold that can float through the Twittersphere. Last night I made a point of consciously working my way through the Tweets of just a select few poker celebs, particularly the women of poker, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. It’s very clear right off the bat, what a tight community the poker pros have and how in touch they are with each other (even more so now).
There are also some really funny characters in the poker world, so now that I’ve got Twitter somewhat figured out, I’ll be broadcasting the best and worst of what the poker women are saying in an upcoming post.
